What is Success

What is Success?

Four years ago we started out on a journey. A journey to plant a church in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. When we started this journey we were hopeful and prayerful that we would be able to see people come to Christ and empowered by His Spirit. Since we started this journey together we’ve seen 435 first time decisions for Christ, 216 backsliders restored, and 252 believers baptized in the Holy Spirit! We are rejoicing today and praising God for his faithfulness over the past four years. We are also rejoicing and praising God that there have been a number of people who’ve been so faithful to the vision and the call upon Purpose Church. This all got me thinking about success and what it means to be successful. I know four years ago I thought if I could run a certain number and get a building paid for I would for sure be a success. When every thing goes just as we planned, thats success. Well, we all know things never go just like we plan!

Let me share with you what I think success is now. Success is continuing to be faithful regardless of the circumstance! The Scriptures tell us in Luke 9:62 no one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for the kingdom. What Jesus is saying here is anyone who starts out following me and working for me, (because he says puts his hand to the plow implying he started a work) once you start a work for God you can’t stop until it’s completed. So success is being faithful. When you start out to do something for God things don’t always line up and agree with you. But you just can’t quit. You have to faithfully fulfill what God has called you to do. In my life over the last four years we have celebrated great victories we have bound our wounds over great hurts. We have had people walk out on us. Lies have been told. People have been mislead but still there are those who have said I will continue this course, I will be faithful to the end. I know for me it has been so hard sometimes not to just say forget it! I’m done! But, I am always reminded of an  old song that says, “I am determined to hold out to the end,Jesus is with me, on Him I can depend; And I know I have salvation, for I feel it in my soul; I am determined to hold out to the end.”

It doesn’t matter how small your life may seem or insignificant it may be if you are faithful over what you have and who you are you are a success. I want to leave you with these words found in 2 Timothy 4:8 now there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord the righteous judge shall give me on that day and not only to me but to all those who love his appearing. Simply put God has a prize in store for those who are faithfully waiting for Him.

Stay Faithful.

This blog shows exceptional wisdom that comes only from Pastorello and ministerial experience not to mention the school of hard knocks. Many pastors never see the full fruit of their labors simply because they don’t stay anywhere long enough to see their seads grow into trees that bear fruit. Church, we need to lift up the arms of this pastoral family and the leadership of this Church and hand-in-hand continue to march towards the victory that Christ has called us to, adding to our numbers each and every day!
